School Overview

The School of Basic Sciences (SBS) at Galgotias University is a premier institution for students seeking a strong foundation in the fields of basic sciences. Its purpose is to provide a strong educational base in various scientific disciplines to students pursuing degrees in science-related fields. The school comprises of three domains, namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The school has 200+ students from all parts of the country which brings out the diversified culture of India. There are 70+ faculty members who are well qualified with masters/doctorates from institutes of repute including IITs, NITs, central universities, IACS, GB Pant University, Delhi University, AMU with international exposure on working /scientific visits to different countries like USA, France, Germany, Netherlands, UK etc. The alumni of the school are working as entrepreneurs, analysts, research associates, academicians in various reputed national and international govt./non-govt. organisations. Many graduating students are pursuing higher education from China, UK, Israel etc. 

Committed to providing a stimulating academic environment, the school offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in various fields of basic sciences including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental sciences. The undergraduate and postgraduate programs are designed and implemented as per NEP 2020 (UGC) with multiple entry and exit options. The school offers a 3-year B.Sc. (Gen) programme which can be extended to a 2-year post graduate (M.Sc.) program in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics. As per NEP 2020 (UGC), the school also offers 4-year B.Sc. Honors with research program in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics which can be extended to 1-year M.Sc. program in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics respectively. Doctoral programs in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental sciences are also offered by the school. The school is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities which helps to deliver hands-on training and experimentation, experiential learning experience that prepares students for successful careers in academia, research, and industry.

Research is a significant aspect of a School of Basic Science. The School has a team of highly acclaimed researchers, as their faculty members, having broad research areas including but not limited to material science, nanotechnology, applied optics, modelling & simulation, bio-fuels, composite materials, polymers, photo-catalysis, organic synthesis, solar cells, Atmospheric sciences, Computational Physics, Microwave, Bio-Physics, Astrophysics, Thin films, Energy storage, water treatment, optimization, fluid mechanics, image processing, numerical analysis, differential geometry, etc. 

The school has published more than 450+ article/book chapters in reputed national and international journals. More than 50 patents have been published by the faculty members of the school. They are also working as the editors and reviewers of 35+ journals and publication houses.Most of the faculty members in the school have 12+ h-Index and average of 10+ impact factor. There are around 10000 citations of the faculty members of the school. The faculty members have received Funded project from DST, Govt. of India and seed funds from Galgotias University.The school offers doctoral programs in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental sciences. The school has awarded 8 Ph.D. so far and currently there are around 30 Ph.D. scholars in SBS. 

School also encourages interdisciplinary research and collaborations with other departments and institutions, with a view to addressing real-world problems and challenges. The school has successfully collaborated with the industries as well as some well-known and premier research laboratories to excel in academic and industrial research. The school is closely working with various international collaborating partners from USA, Japan, South Africa and many European countries like UK, Germany, Slovenia, Switzerland, etc. in several research areas of mutual interests.

Faculty of the school have received prestigious research awards and recognition for their expertise. School has also won first prize in Smart India Hackathon 2022 organized by Govt. of India. The school has offered 20+ value added courses, workshops and seminars using advanced learning tools. The faculty members are well trained and have completed MOOCs. The school promotes the Sustainable Development Goals prescribed by the Govt. of India and is always keen to take initiatives to promote related activities among students and faculty members by organizing workshops, seminars, FDPs and SDPs. The extensive student mentoring program not only helps to deal with the problems faced by students in the school but also encourages them to achieve their goals.
