Innovations in information and communication technologies with traditional mass media are changing the way we live, work, play, and learn. The School of Media and Communication Studies (SMCS) has been at the forefront of efforts in exploring the social, cultural, rhetorical, and organizational processes. Our mission is to equip our students with the ability to understand and manage the media and communication revolution in society, education, politics, management, marketing, government, and non-governmental institutions. 

The department has undergone a significant growth in its academic journey by introducing undergraduate, post-graduate, and PhD programs. Our programs are in high demand for its inter-disciplinary approach, intellectual rigour and practical professional induction. We offer holistic learning through critical thinking, creativity, and innovation. Our curriculum provides ample opportunities to students in developing strong theoretical understanding and a comprehensive knowledge in the tools and techniques in the field of mass communication.

SMCS offers specialization in Journalism, Entertainment, and Strategic communication. Adequate industry exposure is ensured through projects, field visits, seminars, workshops, and special lectures. Students actively engage in television and radio programs and film festivals. Internship opportunities are integrated into the curriculum to enable students to acquire practical learning skills. Regular visits of top Academicians, Filmmakers, Journalists, and Advertising professionals are ensured for students to gain knowledge and experience.

Extracurricular activities prevail both at the department and university level. School-level clubs organized and run by students cater to various student interests like films, acting, theatre, singing, public speaking, and debates. To ensure that the students are grounded in the ethos of Indian nationalism and culture, students and faculty regularly organize events to celebrate the idea of one nation.
