World Tobacco Day

Day-1

World No Tobacco Day was celebrated on 31st May and 1st June at GIMS Hospital, Epitome Hospital and Akash Super Speciality Hospital.

World No Tobacco Day was celebrated in campus of government institute of medical sciences Hospital and Epitome Hospital by Nursing students of Galgotias School of Nursing. Students were presented posters and distributed pamphlets in various areas of hospitals such as OPD and Respiratory ward.

Faculty and students of GSON delivered health awareness to patients and their attendants, total 50 people were there at GIMS and Epitome Hospital.

Students delivered health education on the dangers of tobacco and the various ways to overcome the problem arising due to this issue. Tobacco use causes over 8 million deaths annually, including 1.2 million non-smokers due to second-hand smoke.

This effort of GSON was recognised and was complimented by the Higher authority of GIMS hospital and Epitome hospital. The people who were attending the awareness campaign found the program effective in enhancing their knowledge and also expect such sessions in future.

Day- 2

Event started with warm welcome speech by Shashank student of Galgotias school of Nursing. Dr. Ajay, Chairmen of Akash Hospital delivered a speech on World No Tobacco day. Sir highlighted that Tobacco use remains one of the leading causes of preventable deaths worldwide, claiming the lives of more than 8 million people each year. Tobacco doesn't just harm those who smoke; it affects everyone around them, contributing to severe health issues such as heart disease, stroke, respiratory illnesses, and various forms of cancer. Additionally, secondhand smoke poses significant risks to non-smokers, particularly children and vulnerable populations, leading to numerous preventable deaths and diseases.

NS mam of Akash Hospital also enlightened that Quitting tobacco is not merely a personal triumph; it is a public health victory. The benefits of quitting are immediate and long-lasting. Within minutes to hours, the body begins to heal from the harmful effects of tobacco. Over time, the risk of developing tobacco-related diseases significantly decreases, leading to a longer and healthier life. However, quitting is a challenging journey that requires determination, support, and access to effective resources.

Students of GSON presented health education on world no tobacco day in OPD.

Event was concluded with vote of thanks given by Ms.Ritu, Faculty of GSON.
