Workshop on POCSO Act 2012

A workshop was organized at Mala Smriti Home, Sector 51, by the Girl Up Meera Foundation in collaboration with Bal Uday, the Legal Aid Clinic, and the Pro Bono Club. The goal of the event was to empower children by educating them about their legal rights, focusing on the POCSO Act 2012 and the JJ Act 2015. Under the guidance of faculty members Prof. Pow Aim Hailowng and Prof. Kumar Kunal from the School of Law, Galgotias University, the workshop featured engaging presentations, distribution of educational materials, and motivational stories about role models. Volunteers, led by Md Kaif, played an active role in interacting with the children, helping them understand their rights in an inspiring and accessible way.
The workshop, conducted at Mala Smriti Home, Sector 51, was a joint effort of Girl Up Meera Foundation, Bal Uday, the Legal Aid Clinic, and the Pro Bono Club, aimed at raising awareness of children’s legal rights. With a special focus on the POCSO Act 2012 and the JJ Act 2015, the event aimed to empower the children in attendance through knowledge and inspiration.
The event was coordinated by Md Kaif with support from volunteers Piyush Pandey, Aman Kumar, and Neha Yadav. Faculty mentors Prof. Pow Aim Hailowng and Prof. Kumar Kunal guided the proceedings, ensuring that the children received accurate and meaningful information. Pamphlets, pens, diaries, and T-shirts, provided by Galgotias University, were distributed to the children as educational resources.
The workshop also included a presentation by Mrs. Gayatri, trustee of Bal Uday, who highlighted the importance of legal protections for children, particularly under the POCSO Act 2012. Volunteers shared motivational stories of prominent role models to inspire the children, encouraging them to take pride in their rights and to overcome any challenges they may face.
The workshop was not just informative but also interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions. The event concluded with a sense of accomplishment as the children gained a deeper understanding of their legal rights, empowering them to protect themselves and their peers in the future.
Event Outcome
The workshop on empowering children about their legal rights was a resounding success, providing valuable insights to the children regarding the POCSO Act 2012 and the JJ Act 2015. The interactive format, coupled with inspirational storytelling, motivated the children to embrace their rights. The presence of Bal Uday trustee Mrs. Gayatri and collaboration with multiple organizations ensured a holistic approach to raising awareness, strengthening the relationship between Galgotias University and the community.
