This Policy applies to all the students, staff and visitors

Purpose

  1. To reduce the consumption of single-use plastic items, promote the use of alternatives, and limit plastic waste generated by the university.
  2. To encourage sustainable alternatives, reusable options, and responsible procurement practices within the university community.
  3. To raise awareness and educate students, faculty, and staff about the environmental consequences of plastic use and the benefits of sustainable practices.

Strategies for Minimizing Plastic Use

Single-Use Plastic Reduction

  1. The university actively works to eliminate single-use plastic items, such as plastic straws, cutlery, and bags, in campus dining facilities, vending machines, and at university-sponsored events.
  2. Compostable or biodegradable alternatives are used whenever possible.

Procurement Guidelines

  1. The procurement department implements sustainable procurement practices that prioritize products with minimal plastic packaging and materials that can be reused, recycled, or composted.
  2. Preference is given to suppliers who offer products with reduced plastic packaging and environmentally responsible materials.

Plastic Bottle Reduction

  1. The university discourages the sale of single-use plastic water bottles on campus.
  2. Accessible water refill stations and the sale of reusable water bottles is promoted as alternatives.

Campus Events

  1. Campus event organizers are encouraged to minimize plastic use, including event flyers, banners, and promotional materials. Electronic communication and digital materials should be prioritized.
  2. When plastic materials are necessary, organizers should ensure they are recyclable or compostable.

E-waste Management

The university established procedures for the responsible disposal and recycling of electronic waste to prevent the accumulation of plastic components in landfills.

Plastic Awareness and Education

The university conducts regular awareness campaigns, workshops, and educational programs to inform the campus community about the environmental impact of plastic use and the benefits of reduction. b.
