The School of Media and Communication Studies (SMCS) hosted renowned journalist Mr. Ravi Rao for the second session of its 2024-25 orientation program. With over 16 years of experience across print, broadcast, and digital media, Mr. Rao is currently a Senior Producer at Aajtak, part of the India Today group. His career spans several major media houses, including ABP, Zee, News Nation, Dainik Jagran, and Doordarshan.
In the session, attended by over 50 students, Mr. Rao delivered an insightful talk on "TV Journalism in the Convergence Era." He explored the evolving landscape of TV journalism, emphasizing the impact of technology and multimedia storytelling. Mr. Rao discussed the importance of mastering various journalism formats—print, TV, and digital—highlighting the blurring lines between these mediums in today’s convergent media environment.
Drawing from his personal experiences, Mr. Rao provided a realistic view of newsroom dynamics, sharing stories from his early days at Dainik Bhaskar to his current role at Aajtak. He also discussed the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism, cautioning against over-reliance on technology and encouraging critical thinking and innovation.
The two-hour session, moderated by Dr. Anurag Pandey, allowed students to engage directly with Mr. Rao, asking insightful questions. He praised their curiosity and urged them to continue exploring the field. The session was a success, leaving students inspired and well-informed about the challenges and opportunities in modern journalism.
