An orientation programme was organized with the newly admitted students of School of Media and Communication Studies. Students admitted for the BJMC and MJMC participated in the orientation programme. The programme started on 12-09-2024 and continued till 13-09-2024. Primarily, students were exposed with diversified career opportunities, available in the field of mass communication. The experts from different disciplines (such as advertising, PR, media, digital media, films, radio and newspaper) shared their valuable inputs with the students. Mr. Subrata Paul shared his thoughts on how visual communicates with individual. Also, the audiences’ engagement with the visual medium was explained with real examples.

The newly admitted students at the Centre for Media and Communication Studies witnessed an engaging session with Mr. Subrato Paul. The topic of discussion was “Fims: A Narration of Reality”. Mr. Paul was born and brought up in New Delhi. As a teenager, he has co-founded “Agantuk- Theatre of Thoughts” along with Bhaskar Paul. His inspiration is the notable singer and writer Mr. Nachiketa Chakraborty. In his film school, Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts and Communication, he has scripted and directed short film named “Road to No Where”- a film on drug addiction. The same film won the Best Educational Fim award in the 17th UGC-CEC Film Festival, Pune. He started his career in news channels with NDTV and Sahara India TV. In 2010, he cofounded a television and video production company named as Timeline Media Factory (TMF) in New Delhi. He has documented numerous features focusing on interiors and cultures of India for Xinhua China and Made films for Metlife, DLF Pramerica, HSBC and many others. His directed film for Centum Learning has been awarded as the Best Corporate Film in Star Awards 7th Indy’s Film Festival.
The session started with the introduction of students. Also, they identified reasons to join media education. Students showed their interest for production, script writing, anchoring, camera handling, editing and public speaking. The eminent speaker provided an overview of the media industry over a span of 20 years. The transition from the print media to the digital world has been explained with nuanced detail. In addition, the journey of the film industry from the silent movie to the spectacular croma shooting set has been presented to the student.
The two hours session was moderated by Ms. Priya Shaw and other faculty members were also present in the orientation session along with the Dean of SMCS Prof. A. Ram Pandey sir. Students raise good questions during the session and the guest speaker appreciated the students and wished them for a bright career in media and journalism. The ‘question and answer’ session was engaging and students’ active participation was noticed there. The session critical question on the ethics of film makers too as new stories are emerging in OTT platform. Overall, the session threw light on every aspect of film making and its narration.
