Awareness cum orientation program
Event Date: 27th September 2024
Faculty and Students of School of Agriculture, Galgotias University attended one-day Awareness cum orientation Programme on integrated pest management (IPM). Programme gave participants a thorough understanding of sustainable pest control methods and how important they are to the agriculture industry. Participants were introduced to a range of entrepreneurial case studies that demonstrated practical implementations of integrated pest management (IPM) concepts, and the program delved into the breadth of Agriculture Business Incubation (ABIC). The conversation also covered the potential for producing microbial bio-pesticides, highlighting their contribution to lowering chemical inputs and promoting a more environmentally friendly method of farming. The program's field and lab trips to the National Centre for Integrated Pest Management (NCIPM) were among its highlights. These excursions gave students practical teaching experiences and improved their comprehension of IPM techniques in authentic environments.
Dr. Subhash Chander, the Director of ICAR-NCIPM talked about the problems faced by the farmers and explored ways to solve them in sustainable manner. The Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator of ABIC, NCIPM, Dr. SK Singh and Dr. Rekha Balodi, provided us with their extensive expertise on the sustainable pest control. Dr. Mukesh Sehgal, Principal Scientist and HRD Incharge gave talk on Entreprenurship in Agriculture sector in which he explained the different extension works done in different states by their institute foe the welfare of the community. Students as well as faculty learnt so much from this course, and look forward to working with them and having more opportunity to learn about sustainable pest control in the future.
A one-day awareness and orientation program on integrated pest management (IPM) was privileged to be attended by faculty and students from Galgotias University's School of Agriculture. The course gave attendees a thorough grasp of sustainable pest management techniques and emphasised their importance in the agriculture sector. Participants were exposed to practical implementations of IPM ideas through a series of expert-led discussions and case studies, providing them with insights into how these techniques are actively applied in the field. The program also looked at the enormous potential of Agriculture Business Incubation (ABIC), a program that promotes entrepreneurship and innovation in the agricultural industry. One area of particular emphasis was the development of microbial bio-pesticides, which were promoted as crucial instruments for lowering chemical inputs and fostering a more ecologically friendly.
The field and lab excursions to the National Centre for Integrated Pest Management (NCIPM) were a high point of the curriculum. Students had the chance to see IPM techniques in real-world settings during these outings. Participants participated in hands-on learning activities throughout the trips, which complemented the academic information they had learnt during the program. With this practical approach, students were able to apply the principles they had learnt to actual agricultural settings and get a greater understanding of the potential and problems related to sustainable pest control. The Programme also provided teachers and students with crucial insights by showcasing the state-of-the-art research and technical breakthroughs being done in the field of IPM.
Event Outcome
Overall, Programme was quite informative for the Galgotias University faculty and students. The attendees were deeply impacted by the insightful and practical insights shared by the esteemed speakers, along with the exposure to real-world IPM techniques. They are excited to keep working together with the NCIPM and other relevant parties in order to further their knowledge of sustainable pest management and its critical role in determining the direction of agriculture in the future. The participants are eager to learn more in the future and intend to use what they have learnt to further sustainable agricultural practices in their own academic and professional pursuits.
