The 12th International Library and Information Professionals Summit (I-LIPS) 2024, themed "Innovative Technologies in Librarianship: Challenges and Opportunities," commenced on November 29, 2024, at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Galgotias University. The day began with registration, followed by the inaugural session. Dr. Debal C Kar, Dean and University Librarian at Galgotias University, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the summit's significance. This was followed by an address from Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO of Galgotias University, who discussed the transformative role of technology in education and libraries. The Chief Guest, Shri Yogendra Upadhyay, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education for the Government of Uttar Pradesh, then addressed the attendees, highlighting government support for library initiatives and announcing new funding opportunities.
Subsequent addresses were made by prominent figures in academia: Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University, shared insights on innovative practices in library management; Prof. Shalini Lihitkar from Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University emphasized the importance of research in library science; and Dr. Emily Drabinski from Queens College discussed advocacy in librarianship based on her experiences in the U.S. The session also featured a guest address by Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, who addressed challenges faced by libraries in India. Following these speeches, awards were distributed to recognize outstanding contributions to library science, and the conference proceedings were released. Dr. K. Mallikharjuna Babu, Vice-Chancellor of Galgotias University, concluded the inaugural addresses with remarks on future directions for libraries in a digital age. Finally, Dr. Avadesh Kumar, PVC of Galgotias University, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all speakers and participants while encouraging ongoing dialogue throughout the conference. The session was coordinated by Dr. Parveen Babbar, Deputy Librarian at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.
