Dr. Priyanka Jain

Assistant Professor

Dr. Priyanka Jain is a sociologist with around 7 years of teaching/research experience and 8 years of social sector experience in NGOs/Corporates. She is currently, working in the Department of Sociology, School of Liberal Education (SOLE), Galgotias University. Prior to working with Galgotias, she was associated with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) like Gitarattan International Business School (GIBS), Noida International University (NIU) and Lovely Professional University (LPU). She has contributed both in academic and administrative capacities as Assistant Professor and Course Coordinator in domains of Sociology, Research Studies, Human Values and Business Communication. Being an academician, she enjoys experimenting innovative teaching pedagogical styles with students, thereby mentoring them case-on-case basis. Perfection is her definition and she goes extra miles to maintain quality in tasks she undertakes. Professional networking is her strength which evidences her good communication skills and makes her resourceful and result-oriented. 

Before joining education sector, she managed social projects in NGO sector based on victims of rape, trafficking, domestic violence, and underprivileged women & children. She has trained doctors, nurses, police officials, railway police officials, NGO functionaries on raped and trafficked victims and has been a trainer on safety of women in corporates like HCL, Aegis, etc. In addition, she has also been consultant on social matters for road construction technologies.

  • Ph.D. Sociology from Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. 
  • MA Sociology from Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) University, Delhi, India.
  • PGDBM (HRM) from Institute of Productivity and Management (IPM), Ghaziabad, India.
  • BA Political Sc. (Hons.) from Lady Sri Ram College (LSR), Delhi University.

  • Appointed External Expert in Ad hoc Committee on Courses and Studies by Tribal Study Centre, Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India (2022). 
  • Appointed Chief NSS Coordinator at GIBS, Rohini, Delhi, India (2019).
  • Awarded State topper of Rajasthan from MNIT, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India in essay competition organized by Aligarh Muslim University on Sir Syed Day. (2014). 
  • Accredited in child rights film, “I AM KALAM” by NGO Smile Foundation and involved in advocacy campaign on child labour at premier institutes of India like, IITs, IIMs, XLRI, XISS, Jamnalal Bajaj, Narsee Monjee, etc. (2011-2012).
  • Received Certificate of Appreciation for playing instrumental role in Smile Foundation’s recognition as “Effective Capacity Building Agency” for training of ASHA Workers in rural Rajasthan under the program-Parivartan. (2010–2011).
  • Represented NGO STOP as international resource person on "Trafficking and HIV-AIDS" in World Social Forum, Sweden (2007).
  • Awarded Gold Medallist in Sociology from Department of Sociology, Jamia Milia Islamia (2006).
  • Awarded 2 years scholarship for pursuing Masters in Sociology from Department of Sociology, Jamia Milia Islamia (2004-2006).

Research

  • Published 25 research papers/chapters in reputed national/international journals, books, including articles in print media.
  • Appointed as Course Coordinator, Ph.D. Programme, Centre for Research Studies, NIU (2020). 
  • Published edited book titled, “Revisiting Tribal Heritage of India and Contemporary Issues” (2023) and monograph titled, “Ethnography of Transforming Identities of Chakmas in Northeast India” (2021).
  • Successfully supervised and submitted 5 MA Dissertations and 3 BA Dissertations (2020). 
  • Served as Editor-in-Chief of NIU Journal of Social Sciences (NIUJSS) from 2019 to 2023. 
  • Extensively researched on Chakmas in geographically isolated terrains of Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Arunachal (2014-2018).
