Event brief description – The Centre for Research in Environmental Law and Sustainability (CRELS) at Galgotias University organized a one-day symposium titled "Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: Women, Law, and Leadership" in celebration of International Women's Day 2025. The event aimed to foster discussions on gender justice, women’s leadership, and legal rights, providing a platform to recognize and celebrate women’s contributions in law, governance, and leadership roles.

 The symposium featured distinguished speakers, including Shaheeda Parveen Ganguly (IPS), Advocate Priyanka Sud, Professor Arushi Bajpai, and Mrs. Rachana Roy, who shared their experiences and insights on women’s empowerment, legal reforms, and societal challenges. Discussions covered topics such as workplace discrimination, sexual violence, legal rights, and the importance of educating men on gender equality. The event encouraged young women to pursue leadership roles, challenge stereotypes, and actively engage in policy reforms. A special note of thanks was extended to the patrons and mentors of Galgotias University, whose continuous support made the event successful. The symposium concluded with a strong message of empowerment, equality, and breaking barriers for a better future. 

Event Detailed Description

The Centre for Research in Environmental Law and Sustainability (CRELS) at the School of Law, Galgotias University, successfully organized a one-day symposium titled "Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: Women, Law, and Leadership" on 6th March 2025 to commemorate International Women’s Day. 

The event was managed by Dr. Apoorva Roy (Convener, CRELS) and Ms. Pramadvara (Co-Convener, CRELS), ensuring an insightful and impactful discussion on issues related to women’s empowerment, legal reforms, and leadership. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Renu Luthra, who spoke on stereotypes affecting women in India, encouraging them to become problem solvers and excel in leadership roles. She also emphasized the importance of men standing alongside women in breaking societal barriers. The symposium featured distinguished speakers from various domains. 

Shaheeda Parveen Ganguly (IPS) stressed the need to educate men about gender equality and shared her journey of breaking barriers at every stage of life, balancing family responsibilities and professional duties. 

Adv. Priyanka Sud highlighted women’s increasing power in legal and social spheres, discussing landmark cases and legal protections like the POSH Act, Hindu Succession Act amendment (2005), and the Maternity Benefit Act. 

Professor Arushi Bajpai presented on Justice Delayed is Justice Denied The Struggles of Sexual Offense Survivors in India," emphasizing the legal challenges survivors face and the importance of legal frameworks like Zero FIR and One Stop Centers.

Mrs. Rachana Roy stressed the importance of educating women in slums and linking them with legal aid resources while also discussing the deeper spiritual connection between self (Atma) and Supreme Soul (Parmatma) in fostering resilience.

The event was gracefully anchored by Ms. Priyam Singh and Ms. Roopali Shekhawat, ensuring a smooth transition between discussions. A special note of thanks was extended to the patrons of Galgotias University, including Mr. Suneel Galgotia (Chancellor), Dr. K.
