Exposure visit to Insect Collection Centre, IARI, New Delhi
Event Date: 27th - 28th April 2024
The School of Agriculture at Galgotias University organized a transformative exposure visit to the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI). The purpose of this visit was to provide students with practical insights, hands-on experiences, and networking opportunities in the field of entomology, focusing on pest management and sustainable agriculture practices.
Upon arrival at IARI, students were greeted with enthusiasm and welcomed into the world of entomology. The visit commenced with an informative orientation session, where experts from the Department of Entomology shared insights into the department's research areas, ongoing projects, and contributions to agricultural innovation.
The visit featured interactive sessions and workshops led by experienced entomologists and researchers. Students engaged in discussions on insect morphology, taxonomy, behavior, and their roles in agricultural ecosystems. They gained a deeper understanding of pest identification, monitoring techniques, and integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
One of the highlights of the visit was the guided tour of entomology laboratories, where students witnessed cutting-edge research in action. They observed experiments on insect physiology, biocontrol agents, insecticide resistance, and molecular techniques for pest management. Demonstrations on insect rearing, trapping methods, and pesticide efficacy testing provided valuable hands-on learning experiences.
Students had the opportunity to visit experimental farms and field research sites managed by the Department of Entomology. They observed field trials of insect-resistant crop varieties, agroecological practices, and biodiversity conservation measures. Field visits allowed students to witness real-world applications of entomological research in sustainable agriculture.
The visit also included a showcase of innovative technologies and tools used in entomology research. Students learned about remote sensing applications for pest detection, drone-based monitoring, precision spraying systems, and digital platforms for pest risk assessment. These technological advancements highlighted the intersection of agriculture, entomology, and cutting-edge innovation.
The exposure visit facilitated networking opportunities for students to interact with leading entomologists, industry professionals, and fellow enthusiasts. They exchanged ideas, perspectives, and career insights, fostering collaborations and partnerships for future research endeavors.
The exposure visit to IARI's Department of Entomology had a profound impact on students' academic and professional development. They gained practical skills, scientific knowledge, and a deeper appreciation for the critical role of entomology in sustainable agriculture and pest management. The experience inspired students to pursue careers in entomological research, extension services, agribusiness, and environmental conservation.
The exposure visit to IARI's Department of Entomology organized by Galgotias University, School of Agriculture was a transformative experience that empowered students with knowledge, skills, and inspiration in the field of entomology. It reinforced the university's commitment to experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and fostering the next generation of agricultural leaders and innovators.
