Exposure Visit to Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi
Event Date: 26th November 2024
School of Agriculture, Galgotias University visited the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, to gain practical insights into innovative agricultural research and technologies. The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to interact with experts and explore three prominent departments: Entomology, Plant Pathology, and the Centre for Protected Cultivation Technology.
The first stop was the Department of Entomology, where students learned about various insect pests and their management in agriculture. The department focuses on pest control, integrated pest management (IPM), and developing sustainable solutions to combat pest-related challenges in crop production. Students observed ongoing research on pest identification, life cycle studies, and biological control methods, which are essential for promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Next, the students visited the Department of Plant Pathology, where they gained knowledge about the diagnosis, management, and prevention of plant diseases. The department’s research is instrumental in improving crop health and enhancing yields. Students were exposed to various plant diseases, diagnostic techniques, and the role of biotechnology in developing disease-resistant crops. They also discussed the significance of disease surveillance and the use of plant protection chemicals and organic treatments.
Finally, the visit concluded at the Centre for Protected Cultivation Technology, where students explored modern techniques used for growing crops in controlled environments. The centre specializes in technologies such as polyhouses, greenhouses, and hydroponics, which help optimize growing conditions and improve yield quality. Students learned about the importance of temperature, humidity control, and artificial lighting in achieving year-round crop production, making it a valuable resource for sustainable farming.
Overall, the exposure visit to IARI offered students an enriching experience, deepening their understanding of agricultural research, pest management, plant health, and innovative farming technologies that are critical to modern agriculture.
